Biography 

 

Ioana is a Birmingham School of Art student in her final year. Born in post-communist Bucharest she has been raised at the intertwining of two worlds. She discovered Contemporary art practices later, once she started her degree abroad. Her practice reveals her dual apprenticeship (traditional-her heritage, with a contemporary twist).

Passionate about Antiquity, traditional art and the Latin world, she has fulfilled her studies in Rome, Italy.

Her subjects find the vim in her memory and her fictional memory. Upon introspection, she materialises her thought and feelings in forms that reveal her traditional training as well as her joy of working within various methods and materials. She builds an intimate relationship with her pieces in choosing a small scale to express her themes. Painting, printmaking and sculpture are her most intimate mediums.
